At the 2022 AGM on Sunday, 27 March we were delighted to present Daniel Martin with a Musical Theatre New Zealand Merit Award. These awards are to honour people for outstanding achievement and contribution to musical theatre in our communities.
At only 36 years of age Daniel has already been involved for a solid 25 years as he has been part of nearly every show in some way or another since his first appearance on stage in 1997. With only a few exceptions, if he hasn’t been on stage, Daniel has helped out backstage, or front of house, and has even dabbled in assisting with lighting, production management, and direction.
A member of the MTO Committee since 2009, Daniel was president for 5 years - though it really is his love of musical theatre itself that been a driving force behind his involvement in, and passion for, Musical Theatre Oamaru for the past 25 years.
Long may it continue!

Dear Oamaru
Wow! What a supportive town you are!
The response we, Musical Theatre Oamaru, received during our season of Mamma Mia! was something quite special, and we just want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who came to see the show. Whether you came once, or multiple times, to see your smiling faces at the end of the performance was wonderful, and made this whole journey worth it.
Thank you also to Network Waitaki, the Otago Community Trust, and the Oamaru Licensing Trust - we could not have produced a show of this magnitude without your generous donations.
Thank you to the Oamaru Mail, Real Radio 104, Oamaru Captured, Oamaru Today, and More FM for your coverage of Mamma Mia! before, during and after.
Thank you to the Oamaru Opera House staff, volunteer ushers and box office helpers.
Thank you to The Little Farmstay, Oamaru North School, Rachel Wybrow, Aaron Rushton, Rod Tempero, Neil and Dot Smith, Limelight Cinema, Seascape On Tees, Streeter Concepts, North Otago Motor Group, R & K Signs, Toll Transport Oamaru, Riteway Paint and Panel.
And finally, thank you to our amazing MTO family: the creative team, cast, backing vocalists, band, stage crew, props team, fly crew, follow-spot operators, sound and lighting techies, hair and make up teams, wardrobe dressers, catering helpers, and programme sellers. Be very proud of what we have achieved together.
With thanks,
Melissa Yockney and Daniel Martin
